Winslow Homer's early Kentucky Derby claim |
|
Holy cow! Trainer Tony
Dutrow staked an early claim for the Kentucky Derby 2010 when his Ramon
Dominguez-ridden Winslow Homer landed the Holy Bull Stakes at
betting odds of nearly 4/1.
Winslow Homer beat the favorite, Jackson Bend, by a little under a length and now will return to Gulfstream Park for the Fountain Of Youth Stakes, a Grade Two race, on 20th February. The third horse in the Holy Bull Stakes was William's Kitten who was gaining at the finish but was still beaten around four lengths. Trainer Tony Dutrow said: "I was not expecting that but now I am very pleased and the goal has to be The Kentucky Derby." The victorious jockey Ramon Dominguez explained: "I was confident from a long way out as I had a lot of horse. I just needed a gap and then it came. Winslow Homer passed between horses in a really professional manner and I should think he is getting better all the time." Winslow Homer is now 20/1 in the Kentucky Derby betting with BetUS Sportsbook.
