Everything went wrong for Square Eddie in the Lexington Stakes and despite being beaten into third he is still on target for the Kentucky Derby on May 2.

It was three months since Square Eddie had run, having incurred a minor leg injury. He missed the break and was forced wide. Edgar Prado then made a fast sweeping move arguably way too early and Square Eddie hit the front two furlongs from home.

The horse was ring rusty and had used his speed too soon, he was then swallowed up by winner Advice and Conservative and hung on for third.

There was a lot to like about the race Square Eddie, who started favorite, ran but improvement will certainly be required. Connections were very bullish and all roads lead to Churchill Downs.

Square Eddie is a general 33/1 chance in the Kentucky Derby betting.
