After The Pamplemouse was ruled out of The Kentucky Derby due to injury, an even more high-profile participant is facing a similar injury scare, the favorite Quality Road.

The Florida Derby winner heads the market at 5-1 for Churchill Downs, but Quality Road has a 'quarter crack' in a rear leg.

His trainer, New York-based Jimmy Jerkens, has stated that while Quality Road is not lame on it, the crack in the wall of the hoof, is of concern and he is worried.

The trainer said he would do everything to get Quality Road to the race but the crack did weep blood after training and the colt needs to respond positively to the treatment or he may not be able to run in the big race.

Quality Road beat Dunkirk in the Florida Derby on March 28, which is where he picked up the injury.

Uk-based online bookmaker Bet365 Online Bookmaker reacted by moving Quality Road out from 4/1 to 6/1.
