WITH five days to go to the Kentucky Derby on May 2, Friesan Fire showed he wont be beaten for speed on the big day when posting a blistering final workout.

Critics may say that Friesan Fire's speedy five-furlong breeze in 57.84 seconds was too fast this close to the day. However Friesan Fire's owner and trainer were taking an opposing view.

Connections pointed out that jockey Gabriel Saez was not asking his charge any questions and the horse did it all easily.

Trainer Larry Jones pointed to Hard Spun's fast workout just before his runner-up spot to Street Sense in the Kentucky Derby.

Friesan Fire has not run for seven weeks but the trainer confirmed his horse was match fit and ready to do the business at Churchill Downs.
