Eight Belles may run in Kentucky Derby |
|
Eight Belles, unbeaten in her last four races, and favorite in the betting for the Kentucky Oaks may actually run against the boys in the Kentucky Derby. Owner Rick Porter and her trainer Larry Jones are considering the audacious Kentucky Derby bid rather than the more natural choice of the Oaks for the flying filly. Pyro, who was a flop when betting favorite in the Blue Grass Stakes, is still on target for the big race at Churchill Downs. Trainer Steve Asmussen is clinging to the hope that the all-weather surface at Keeneland was the undoing of Pyro. Asmussen expects a return to form for Pyro on the dirt surface of the Kentucky Derby. Pyro's defeat was a blessing for handler Todd Pletcher who saddled the Blue Grass first and second with Monba and Cowboy Cal. Pletcher may run both in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs, where the maximum possible field of twenty runners looks assured. |
