Britain's sole Kentucky Derby runner, Awesome Act, will have to overcome a not so awesome stalls berth. Trainer Jeremy Noseda's colt was allocated stall 16 of the full twenty-horse line-up.
But Awesome Act was not the only high-profile runner ruing his luck as the favorite Lookin At Lucky was also not so lucky when handed the inside stall one, also considered a major disadvantage.
The second favorite Sidney's Candy was handed the worst of the lot in twenty. That is surely the last thing they wanted for a trail blazer. He will struggle to get to the front and boss affairs from there. Connections will be hoping he can do the same as Big Brown in 2008 from that graveyard post.
One trainer who was happy with his draw was Todd Pletcher, whose Devil May Care picked up draw twelve. The filly will benefit with the application of blinkers for the first time. The other handler who could not complain was Eoin Harty. Harty was upbeat about his American Lion's chance from stall seven.
