Saturday Dec 15, 2007: Bobby Frankel was talking big after Country Star won Hollywood Park’s Starlet Stakes today. Although she is a filly, Frankel nominated the Kentucky Derby as Country Star’s target. Frankel said: “Country Star will be the 2008 Kentucky Derby winner!” Certainly the form of the filly can not be faulted, after finishing runner-up on her Belmont Park debut on turf, she then won the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes at Keeneland on the Polytrack all-weather surface. Her jubilant jockey Rafael Bejarano said: “She is even better now than when she won at Keeneland.” Frankel said that his star filly may run in the Santa Anita Oaks with one race before that. Then the Kentucky Derby will be the plan.
